“Dear FIRA Community,

I hope that you spent a great holiday season with your friends and family. I feel now it is time to plan for FIRA 2022.

The FIRA HQ has held a meeting on Dec. 23 2021 to decide on plans for 2022.

The Announcement

Due to concerns about raising cases of the Omicron COVID variant, the FIRA HQ has decided to organize FIRA 2022 as a SimulCup again, similar to FIRA 2021 SimulCup.

We all had hoped that the COVID pandemic would have abated by now and that we could all meet in person as we did in pre COVID times. However, many FIRA participants are under various lock down restrictions and are unable, for example, to enter their lab. And once it is possible to safely travel and meet, we will host another great World Cup.

But given the current COVID situation, there is still too much uncertainty about the further trajectory of the COVID pandemic. The FIRA HQ decided to make a decision now instead of creating even more uncertainty for teams. The decision to host a SimulCup event will allow teams to prepare for this year’s FIRA competition.

FIRA 2022 SimulCup, 10 – 15 Aug. 2022

FIRA 2022 will be an event simultaneously held in several local hub events world wide. The exact number and location of the hub events will be advertised at a later date.

We are planning to host a mixture of real robot and simulation events, which include: HuroCup, Autonomous Cars Race, Business and Innovation, Air Simulation.

We will also host the FIRA 2022 World Summit as an online event.

Wishing you all the best for 2022″

Jacky Baltes
FIRA President
on behalf of the FIRA HQ
